My descent into obesity began around age 21. I slowly went from a healthy young man of 180 pounds, to an unhealthy, 400+ pound, obese, middle-aged man with several significant health co-morbidities.
At age 54, I weighed over 400 pounds and decided that WLS was the tool I would use to turn my life around.
Today, at age 66, I am a 12 year RNY post-op veteran who maintains a weight of 170 pounds – for a sustained loss of 234 pounds (just about 60% of my pre-surgery weight was lost).
With weight loss I have taken up several physical activities, including bicycle riding.
In 2017 was named the USA’s Male Bari Athlete of The Year.
In 2018 I was elected to the “WLSFA board of directors.
In 2019, I weighed 396 lbs before undergoing a gastric sleeve procedure. At such a young age, I feared I would soon become bed-bound. But thanks to Dr. Sabir, I was given a new lease on life. By early 2021, I had lost nearly 190 lbs through the gastric sleeve procedure and a pre-op diet. The transformation has been life-changing. People often don’t even recognize me now! The compliments I receive boost my confidence immensely, but most importantly, I’ve regained my life.
With Dr. Sabir’s skillful hands and my determination, I was able to complete nursing school and become a better mother and wife to my family. I can do so many things that I was unable to do before. After battling severe obesity for over 15 years, with a BMI of 63.5%, I am now at 31%-a milestone I never imagined reaching.
That is HALF! Crazy right!
In the summer of 2021, I was able to take my daughter to Cedar Point and enjoy EVERY single ride without any sadness-a moment i never thought I’d get to experience. My daughter was so excited to have me by her side, and seeing that meant the world to me. I’ve been able to participate in more family activities and take photos without feeling self-conscious or questioning if I “fit in.” These moments have been so meaningful and have truly transformed my outlook on life.
Fast forward to 2024-I had the joy of welcoming another beautiful, healthy baby boy and experienced a healthy pregnancy. Today, I weigh 240 lbs, maintain a balanced diet, and exercise comfortably whenever I can. While I did gain some weight during pregnancy, I’ve been able to gradually lose it, thanks to the continued restrictions from the gastric sleeve procedure.
This procedure has transformed my eating habits, I can no longer tolerate greasy, heavily processed foods or concentrated sugars Don’t get me wrong-I can still enjoy the foods once loved, but now in moderation.
The gastric sleeve was truly a life-changing decision for me and my family. Five years later still receive compliments and hear that I’m an inspiration to others, if I had to I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!
After seeing the results at the end of the 12-week rapid weight loss program I extended the program to 16 weeks, and I lost 80+ lbs. and my pant size dropped by 8 inches. No other individual diet or supplement that I have tried has provided results anywhere close to the Non-Surgical Rapid Weight Loss program. The rapid weight loss program removes the guesswork by providing all of the food during the program phase. Besides the significant weight loss, the main function of working with a Registered Dietitian weekly to prepare for the transition out of the program is, in my opinion, the reason why the program is successful. The education each week regarding how to continue to lose weight and maintain it after the program is over is something that doesn’t come with any other fad diet
I spent my entire life overweight. Then it moved into obese. And then morbidly obese. My mother, whose body type was the same as mine, was a long-term diabetic. I watched that disease take her life. I was lucky – I wasn’t diabetic and had no other comorbidities. But I wondered how long I could dodge that bullet. I had gastric sleeve surgery in 2016, and I began working out 2 months later. I did my first 5K race in September of 2016, then another in November, and another in December. I discovered there was an athlete buried inside me! I continued to train, work out and do races – first 5Ks, then 10Ks and triathlons. As I lost weight and got stronger, I found this fire to challenge myself and see what my body could do. Due to extreme reflux, my sleeve was converted to a RNY bypass in late 2019. That was a whole new ballgame. Hydration and nutrition were a real challenge. I definitely had some buyer’s remorse in early 2020. But we pushed through and found what my body loved and what it didn’t love. I’ve continued training for over 5 years, and I have done countless shorter races, plus 2 triathlons, 4 half-marathons, a marathon relay and an Ironman 70.3 relay. And as of January 2022, I completed the Walt Disney World Marathon – 26.2 miles. My body is capable of so much more since my surgery. Dr. Sabir and his team not only saved my life, but they opened the door to a whole new life for me. I’m so grateful, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
